TIG welding is fast becoming the welding method of choice for people building their own aircraft. (TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas and is also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)). The ease with which you can weld both 4130 chromoly tubing and aluminum and the high quality welds make TIG welding a perfect match for aircraft construction. EAA SportAir Workshops has teamed up with Lincoln Electric and the Alexander Technical Center to present TIG welding workshops. We have a state-of-the-art welding workshop with 12 professional welding booths. The Lincoln Precision TIG 225 welding unit is used for instruction. You will spend time in a classroom learning the basics of welding. You will then spend the majority of time in the welding booth learning and practicing the techniques needed to weld 4130 steel plate and tubing as well as aluminum.

Each welding booth has all equipment and materials needed for the course.

A professional instructor from Lincoln Electric teaches this course. The class begins on Saturday morning with an introductory Lecture. Hours on Saturday are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday hours from 8:00 a.m. until about 4:00pm pm. Most of Saturday and Sunday will be spent practicing your welding skills with guidance from your instructor.
